Jesselton Philharmonic Orchestra 2009

It was a hectic week even before the actual camp. My friends and I were swamped with loads of work (I don't really want to mention it). Being an impatient person, I was so frustrated and almost went ka-boom. Steph and I thought of a good idea, instead of boiling ourselves till dry, we went to City Mall Yogurt Berry. It was really cooling catalyst!

Yea Yea, JPO was formed in 2007, time flies, I'm now the concert master after Monkey Sister Clara (our first ever concert mistress). I do miss her a lot, without her I need to count XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX bars of rests. Haha! Not that much, trying to exaggerates. From my point of view, JPO is improving although the standard is still low compare to other orchestra. Our concert's highlight was Drovak 9th Symphony "New World", then followed by Beethoven's coriolan, Puccini Madame Butterfly, Vivaldi 4 violins concerto and movie soundtrack.

The camp was friggin exhausting but I LOVE the fun being with friends, I met lots of great people AGAIN. I'm so grateful that I was being able to know certain people, not to mention about the great hospitality and transportation. I trust friendships, I'll do my best to play my role, I'll maintain it, we'd a reason to know each other, I won't give up like previous years...

Ok, that's for now. I'll go practice again T.T

KK Jazz Festival

So basically, it was a charity concert for clear water project thingie, not just any typical concert, it was a massive one, KK Jazz Festival, you talk all about jazz that night. It was held in Sutera Habour's tennis court on the 19th and 20th June. It was divided into 2 nights, the 1st night performance was a bit boring for me (no offense). Great performances keep for the end! I was so damn lucky to be part of the event. I believe, God is behind all these, thank you! :)

Once again, I was so honored to be invited as a guest violinist. Actually a unexpected and urgent replacement for the previous violinist, I only knew that 3 days before my show, quite shocking. As a classical violinist, I never thought I would ever play in such event where it was chaotic, crowded and noisy. The feeling is fresh and extraordinary, simply not like classical music at all, just improvise and have fun even with mistakes. However, life is life, I was given a chance then I'll face the consequences, I met the bad one though. For me, performance and competition are totally different (CHECK DICTIONARY PLEASE). Certain people misunderstood the whole situation I've been through and became a conflict, anyway I dare say I'm innocent. Maybe you need certain level of maturity and age to understand and differentiate competition and performance. God sake! It was just a performance =.="" Since you've experienced it, why not giving chance to others?! think about it dude... you've experienced it, let other elder people try it, don't keep harsh feelings, not worthy.

In my point of view, the festival was not really pure jazz because I heard a bit of new age, Pop, Rock + Metal in the programme. Maybe the defination of jazz grown wider. Millions of thanks to SIA Syndicate, I had so much fun rehearsing and making music alive with you all, I'm looking forward to seeing you all on the next stage. Thanks to Jessel, Yvonne, Gavin, Roy, Jay, Benjoe, Zul and James. Oh ya! Thanks for trusting and lending me the Fender Electric Violin. I think it's time to play more and expose to both classical and jazz, I can be wild too :)

I personally think the performance went well, too bad I really had NO IDEA what I played that night, my sound was projected perfectly but I couldn't any sound from myself, I was so stress that time but God gave me strength to enjoy music without listening to it :)

Being able to play with a band with an electric violin is more than what I'd had imagine. SIA Syndicate was given a change to do the opening for the second night. I feel so contented that we all entertained the audiences, I heard applause that is very different from my classical music world. Being a highlight violinist that night with all the solos running mad, it was like dreaming. I hope I still can play in such event again and of course maintaining my classical performances :) In our show, we tried to let people know Indonesian jazz like gamelan etc. Our programe, Abracadabra, Harvest, Manteca :) around 30 mins.

Finally, apart from meeting great classical musicians, I also met a loads of professional jazz player from USA, Hong Kong, Indonesia and local. They're bunch of great people, like our guitar hero in KK, Roger Wang. A cool pastor (if not mistaken) playing guitar with pleasant voice, Jonathan Tse.

Church Performance :)

I always wanted to play in a church. As a catholic, I never play violin in my own church, what a big shame! After graduated from Sunday school, I was disconnected from church without realizing. I wish I've more chances to worship God with all the talents he granted me. Anyone interested, please let me know, especially from my own church (Sacred Heart, Kota Kinabalu). I'll find time God :) Be an angel, someone!
